Crews Mobilize for Removal of Rail Bridge
Next week, the rail bridge will be lowered from the upright position one last time as crews prepare for its removal. The week of February 13, the rail bridge and 500 ton counterweight will be separated from the road bridge and carefully removed by crane and a large (100 metre long) barge. The barge will fill the channel and require closure of the navigation channel for two to three days.
Some traffic delays and temporary closures may be necessary to complete this work. Staff will work closely with the contractor to ensure that the travelling public, marine users, and neighbouring businesses and residents are kept informed. Notices regarding travel information will be placed in newspapers, posted on the project website, the City’s Facebook
and Twitter pages, and subscriber eNews.
This is an exciting and historic phase of the project with a lot of visible activity in the harbour. The project webcam will be capturing live coverage, which you can see at any point in the day by visiting the project website.
